This Sunday, we began a new sermon series called "Peace in Pieces," addressing something many of us are experiencing but rarely talk about: the reality that we're not fine, and that's okay.

Summary: The sermon explored the widespread anxiety, mental health struggles, and financial stress affecting our communities today—including right here in Ashland. Through Psalm 22 and the example of David, we learned that God doesn't expect us to pretend everything is perfect. Instead, He invites us into honest relationship where we can cry out to Him with our fears, anxieties, and struggles. Just as Jesus cried "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" from the cross, we too are permitted—even encouraged—to share our brokenness with God and with one another.

Takeaways:

God loves honesty. David and Jeremiah show us that we can share our deepest fears, anxieties, and struggles with God without pretending to be fine.
Stop performing and open up. The pressure from social media and even church culture to appear perfect is not what God asks of us. We don't have to be okay all the time.
Identify where you're pretending. This week, take time to honestly acknowledge to God (and perhaps a trusted friend) what in your life you've been pretending is fine when it really isn't.
This is just the beginning of our journey together. In the coming weeks, we'll explore how to find peace even when everything feels like it's in pieces. You don't have to walk through this alone.

Grace and peace,

Pastor

Pastor. Good Friday gets its name from an older sense of the word "good" that meant holy or sacred — the same way people once used phrases like "the good book" to refer to the Bible. So "Good Friday" essentially means "Holy Friday," marking it as a solemn, sacred day in the Christian calendar. It commemorates the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ, which Christians believe was an act of ultimate sacrifice that opened the way for humanity's redemption. We had a nice turnout for Maundy Thursday Prayer and Come and Go Communion. Tonight is our Good Friday or Holy Friday Service at 6:00 pm. I believe it will enhance your Easter experience to be here. Easter is Sunday and it will be a glorious day. We have family and old friends coming I hope you will join us at Ashland. While the crowds expected a militant king who would restore Israel through force, Jesus came offering a radically different kind of power: the power of sacrifice and servanthood. On one side of the city, Jesus entered humbly, and on the other, Pilate arrived representing earthly power. These two arrivals represent the choice we still face: will we seek worldly power or embrace Christ's call to servant ministry?

Summary: The sermon explored the true meaning of following Christ through the door of grace, particularly through the lens of Matthew 25:31-40 (The Sheep and the Goats). Rather than earning our way into God's kingdom through good works, we discover that walking through the door with Jesus transforms us—opening our eyes to see His face in the hungry, thirsty, stranger, naked, sick, and imprisoned. Our service to others flows not from obligation, but as a natural response to the grace we've already received. We serve because we were first loved, and in loving "the least of these," we love Christ Himself.

Takeaways:

Transformation precedes action: We don't serve to earn God's acceptance; we serve because we've already received it. Walking through the door of grace changes our hearts, making service our reflex rather than our requirement.
See Jesus in unexpected faces: Christ calls us to recognize Him in those who are hungry, thirsty, strangers, naked, sick, and imprisoned. Our willingness to see and serve these individuals reflects our relationship with God and our understanding of the greatest commandment—to love God and love our neighbor.
Choose servanthood over power: Just as the Palm Sunday crowds misunderstood Jesus's kingship, we're often tempted to seek cultural power rather than sacrificial love. True discipleship means embracing Christ's invitation to servant ministry, sharing burdens with others while clothed in His grace.
As we move through this Holy Week toward Easter, may we continually ask ourselves: whose faces do we see? Are we responding to Christ's invitation to "come and be blessed" by serving as He served? Let us remember that we won't walk alone—Christ promises to come alongside us, sharing our burdens and giving us strength.

Grace and peace,

Pastor.
