Children's Ministries

Children's ministries at Ashland aim to guide and encourage children form birth through 5th grade to know, love, and follow Jesus as their friend and savior and trust the love of God in every aspect of their lives. We strive toward this goal from our nursery on Sunday mornings, Wednesday nights, and during special events, through Sunday school, our Wednesday Spirit Junction programs, and through activities planned with children in mind. Some of the activities include:

  • Vacaction Bible School in June
  • Trunk or Treat in October
  • a year Christmas Program in December
  • the Pastor's Egg Decorating in April
  • a Holiday Workshop in December
  • And much more!!

In addition, the Children's Ministry team takes great pride in recognizing children for their participation and efforts through a Sunday School Attendance Recognition program, Bible Blast in which all 3rd graders are given a new study bible, as well as through other programs.

Ashland is very concerned for the safety of our children when they are left in our care. Click here to read about our child protection policy.

Faith at Home Opportunity

During the past year students have been encouraged to memorize one Bible verse each month.  They did a great job and many of them accomplished this every month.  Now, I have another challenge for you.  I would like you to review all eleven of these verses and see how many students can recite each verse (with a prompt from me) by the end of September.  They will need to know the scripture reference too.  Students who are able and willing to do this will be rewarded with a special treat and will be recognized in the service. We are asking our student to do this to make sure they have committed the verses to memory.  We feel this is important so that when they get in situations when they need help or comfort the word of God will come quickly to mind. This will probably be a group effort for your family.  I encourage you to work on this during dinner, at bedtime, or maybe before school.  I know that these kids can do this with a little help.

Sunday School

Our Sunday school program is designed for children to learn, by age level, in a traditional Sunday morning format. The children are in class for approximately 50 minutes where they learn the daily Bible lesson using the Live BIG (belief in God) curriculum. They are taught lessons so that they know basics by the time they reach certain age levels. These age level standards were developed by the Children's Ministry Team. Teachers use crafts stories, puppets, DVD components and other special activities to help the children learn in a style that is best for them. Children's Sunday school time starts at 10:10 a.m. and lasts until 11:00 a.m. Contact Kathy Cordero for times and room numbers appropriate for your child.

Spirit Junction

Our Spirit Junction  program is designed for children to learn in groups that include more than one age level. This program is much more casual and the children learn in a Vacation Bible school type setting. They learn using games, crafts, snacks, and music. The children are encouraged to learn the daily Bible verse. They earn "Bible Bucks" for learning the verse, for attendance, bringing a friend, and exceptional behavior. Once a month the children go the Bible Bucks store to "shop" for items that are on display for that month. Spirit Junction is apart of Ashland's G.I.F.T. program on Wednesday evenings, which begins with dinner at 5:15 and classes starting at 6:00 p.m.
